From Miró to Barceló - a century of Spanish art

Miró Barceló principal.jpg

Cubism, surrealism, figuration, abstract art, painting, sculptures, cinema, video… There is no period or style of the 20th or 21st century that isn’t covered by Spanish artists. Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel were pioneers of seeing and creating things in a new way and their legacy lives on. This journey through a century of Spanish art shows that this generation of contemporary artists has kept the avant-garde spirit alive with an extraordinary energy. Their predecessors lived through phenomena of history: Parisian exile, war and ostracism created a huge number of upsetting, radical and even sacilegious paintings. Their successors, among them Miguel Barceló, Cristina Iglesias and La Ribot, who grew up in freedom continue to surprise us with new forms of painting, sculpturing and using space, reenterpreting materials, rituals and myths of Spanish art.
